Both. I know that's an easy out answer, but the reality is there are and will be many innovative technologies coded from the ground up and plug-and-play ready, disrupting the bigger kids on the block. A recent example is the Greenhouse Software talent acquisition system that has been grabbing bottom up market share. And there will be those that eventually get the attention of suitors; on the other side are the recent LinkedIn acquisitions like Connectifier (but mercy did their earnings just take a hit) and there will be other bigger platforms gobbling up progressive code to offset their legacy programming.
